8 Jawans, Driver Killed in Maoist IED Attack in Chhattisgarh
Eight jawans and a driver lost their lives in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district when Maoists detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), destroying their vehicle. The attack occurred around 2:15 PM at Kutru in the Bastar region as the victims were returning from an operation.
Earlier in the day, security forces launched an operation in the Abujhmad region, killing five Maoists, including two women. Automatic weapons like AK-47s and Self-Loading Rifles were recovered during the operation. The jawans were part of the District Reserve Guard, a specialized police unit tasked with combating Maoist insurgency.
Visuals from the blast site revealed a massive crater, underscoring the intensity of the explosion.
This attack comes amid heightened security operations in Maoist-dominated regions of Chhattisgarh, where forces have been making significant inroads and cornering insurgents.
BJP MP Mahesh Kashyap Calls Maoist Attack “Cowardly”
Mahesh Kashyap, BJP MP from Bastar, condemned the attack as “cowardly,” stating, “Our jawans are successfully eliminating Maoists, which has driven them to carry out this desperate attack. I extend my condolences to the families of the jawans who lost their lives in this tragic incident. Our government is committed to clearing Bastar of Maoists by 2026, and we will ensure that the sacrifice of our jawans is avenged.”
