An aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine other individuals has gone missing, as reported by BBC Africa on Monday (June 10). “All attempts by aviation authorities to establish contact with the aircraft, which lost radar communication, have been unsuccessful so far,” the government stated in a release.
The aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima departed from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, and was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport, which is around 370 kilometers (230 miles) to the north. However, the plane did not arrive at its destination within the expected 45-minute flight time.
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera’s office reported that aviation authorities lost contact with the aircraft when it disappeared from radar. In response, President Chakwera has initiated a search operation and canceled his planned trip to the Bahamas.
