The man arrested for the rape and murder of a doctor inside a Kolkata hospital reportedly returned home after committing the crime, slept, and then washed his clothes the next morning in an attempt to destroy evidence, according to a police officer investigating the case.
However, police discovered bloodstains on the accused’s shoe. The accused, a civic volunteer, was not officially associated with RG Kar Medical College and Hospital but was known to frequent the premises.
The body of a female post-graduate trainee, who was allegedly raped and murdered inside a seminar hall at the hospital, was discovered on Friday morning. The civic volunteer accused of the crime was arrested on Saturday.
Protests by junior doctors, demanding swift justice, continued for a third consecutive day on Sunday, disrupting services in government hospitals across West Bengal.
City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the hospital on Sunday for the second time in three days and held discussions with representatives of the agitating junior doctors.
