COIMBATORE: In response to the Monkeypox alert, the health department has stationed a team at Coimbatore airport to screen passengers with a travel history from African countries.
Deputy Director of Health Services, P. Aruna, stated that a medical camp has been established within the airport where a doctor and health inspectors are conducting screenings for passengers arriving from abroad, particularly those from African regions.
“Both government and private hospitals in the district have been instructed to adhere to guidelines to prevent the spread of Monkeypox. They are required to report any admissions with symptoms. As of now, no cases have been reported in Coimbatore,” Aruna said.
She further explained that common symptoms include skin rashes or mucosal lesions, which can persist for 2-4 weeks, along with fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
Monkeypox can be transmitted to humans through direct physical contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or infected animals.
