Reigning Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara has proven her prowess by advancing to the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris. She delivered an impressive performance, finishing second in the qualification round with a score of 625.8, just 0.2 points shy of the Paralympic record.
Joining Avani Lekhara in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event is another Indian competitor, Mona Agarwal, boosting India’s medal prospects. Mona secured her spot by finishing fifth out of 17 athletes with a final score of 623.1 after six sets. Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik led the qualification round with a Paralympic record score of 627.5.
Avani Lekhara has a strong opportunity to further her impressive career by defending the gold medal she won at the Tokyo Paralympics. In Tokyo, she made history as the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold and was also the first Indian to secure a shooting medal at the Games. Before heading to the Paralympics in Paris, Avani emphasized her focus on the process rather than the results.
“I think we have been in a very positive environment throughout. We are concentrating on the process rather than the outcome. While there are expectations, they only motivate and inspire me to give my best,” she told PTI.
