Sanath Jayasuriya, the former Sri Lanka batter, has been appointed as the full-time head coach of the Sri Lanka men’s cricket team. The decision was made by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Jayasuriya’s contract begins on October 1, 2024, and will run until March 31, 2026. He initially took on the role of interim head coach earlier this year, after previously serving as a cricket consultant for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
His first assignment as interim head coach was a white-ball series against India at home. While India won the T20I series, Sri Lanka impressed in the ODIs, tying the first match and winning the next two to secure their first bilateral series win against India since 1997.
Sri Lanka also performed well in England, recovering from two Test losses to beat the hosts in the third Test at The Oval.
As full-time head coach, Jayasuriya’s first assignment will be the home series against the West Indies, starting on October 13, which will feature three T20Is and three ODIs.
