A pro-Khalistani group has claimed responsibility for the blast near a CRPF school in Rohini, New Delhi, on Sunday, causing alarm in the national capital. Delhi Police have reached out to social media platforms, including Telegram, requesting information about the channel where the post was made, according to officials.
The powerful explosion damaged the school’s wall in Prashant Vihar, with nearby buildings and vehicles also impacted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Delhi Police stated that they are investigating a potential Khalistani connection following a Telegram post that claimed the explosion was retaliation for the alleged targeting of pro-Khalistan separatists by Indian agents.
The investigation team has requested details about the Telegram channel named ‘Justice League India’ but has yet to receive a response from Telegram, according to officials.
On Sunday evening, a video of the blast featuring a “Khalistan Zindabad” watermark was posted on the Telegram channel, accompanied by a message.
The message stated, “If the Indian coward agency and their masters believe they can hire filthy goons to target our members and silence our voice, they are living in a fool’s world. They have no idea how close we are and how capable we are of striking at any time. #KhalistanZindabad #JLI.”
The post seemed to reference New Delhi’s stance against the global anti-India activities of Khalistani terrorists, particularly in light of the recent diplomatic tensions with Canada.
According to sources from Delhi Police, the explosion was caused by a low-intensity IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that was triggered by a timer or remote, and it did not contain any shrapnel or ball bearings. The blast damaged a portion of the school wall, shattered the windows of nearby shops, and damaged several parked cars. The sound of the explosion could be heard from several hundred meters away.
Top police officials indicated that the perpetrators likely intended to send a warning to the authorities.
In the aftermath of the explosion, teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Delhi Police secured the area while forensic experts gathered evidence from the scene.
