Cricket Australia announced Wednesday that Andrew McDonald, head coach of the Australian Men’s team, has received a contract extension through to the end of 2027.
Since taking over in 2022, McDonald has led Australia to victories in the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023, with the team currently ranked No. 1 in Tests and No. 2 in both ODI and T20 formats.
With this extension, McDonald will guide Australia through the next World Test Championship cycle and have the chance to defend their ODI World Cup title in 2027, as well as compete in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup and next year’s Champions Trophy.
CA CEO Nick Hockley praised McDonald, stating, “Andrew has proven to be an outstanding men’s head coach, not only achieving remarkable results but also building a strong coaching team, methodology, and an excellent environment for team performance. We’re thrilled to extend his tenure for another two years.
“With this extension, Andrew will lead the team into the next World Test Championship, the World Cup defense, and the upcoming T20 World Cup. This period also includes an unprecedented 13 months of Test cricket in 2026-27, featuring away series against India and England, and the 150th anniversary Test at the MCG.”
McDonald expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m fortunate to work with exceptional leaders, players, coaches, and staff, all dedicated to the ongoing success and development of this group.
“The professionalism and commitment of the coaches and wider staff have not only driven our success but fostered a culture of unity, trust, and inclusivity. International cricket presents challenges, and I’m particularly proud of how our group has navigated them together across all formats.”
