New Delhi: The makers announced Wednesday that Ramayana, a live-action adaptation of the Hindu epic directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will release in two parts during the Diwali festivals of 2026 and 2027.
Produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios, the film is set to star Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash.
“A press release from the makers described the film as ‘an epic adaptation that brings to life one of India’s most cherished tales with unmatched scale and visionary storytelling.’
Producer Namit Malhotra shared the official announcement of Ramayana on Instagram, along with the first poster of the film.
“Over a decade ago, I set out on a noble quest to bring this epic, cherished by billions for over 5,000 years, to the big screen,” Malhotra wrote. “Today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully, as our teams work tirelessly with one goal: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture—our Ramayana— for audiences worldwide.”
“Join us in fulfilling our dream of bringing this epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 arriving Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. With love, from our entire Ramayana family,” he added.
Director Nitesh Tiwari, known for films like Dangal and Chhichhore, also shared the announcement on Instagram.
“With heartfelt gratitude and a dream to share our Ramayana, our culture, and our history with the world, we seek your love and blessings. @iamnamitmalhotra,” he wrote.
Reports indicate that Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will portray Ram and Sita, respectively, while Yash recently shared in an interview that he will take on the role of Ravan. However, the makers have yet to officially confirm the cast.
