New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to tribal icon Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, praising his ultimate sacrifice in defending the honor and dignity of the motherland.
Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, Birsa Munda is remembered for challenging British rule and rallying tribal communities against colonial oppression. He passed away in British custody at just 25 years of age.
“Bhagwan Birsa Munda ji sacrificed everything to protect the honor and glory of the motherland. My deepest respects to him on the auspicious occasion of his birth anniversary, ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas,'” PM Modi wrote in a Hindi post on X.
PM Modi also shared a video and audio montage highlighting his tributes to Birsa Munda on various occasions.
The Prime Minister is set to visit Jamui in Bihar to commemorate Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, kicking off the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the tribal icon.
PM Modi extended his greetings to the people of Jharkhand on the state’s foundation day.
“Best wishes to all our brothers and sisters of Jharkhand on the foundation day of the state. This land, nurtured by the struggle and sacrifice of the tribal community, has always made the nation proud. I hope this state, rich in natural resources, continues to progress rapidly on the path of development,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Jharkhand was officially established as a state on November 15, 2000, coinciding with Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary.
