Over 40 Delhi Schools Receive Bomb Threats, Students Sent Home
Over 40 schools in Delhi, including DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, received bomb threats on Monday morning, prompting swift action. Students were sent home, and authorities were immediately informed.
The threats were reportedly delivered via an email sent at 11:38 PM on Sunday. According to a copy accessed by NDTV, the email claimed multiple bombs had been planted in the schools, stating: “The bombs are small and hidden very well.”
The sender demanded $30,000 to defuse the bombs and issued a chilling warning: “It will not cause very much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs.”
The Delhi Police are investigating the sender and tracing the email’s IP address.
The alerts came amidst the morning rush, as school buses arrived, parents dropped off children, and staff prepared for the morning assembly. The Delhi Fire Department received the first distress call from GD Goenka School at 6:15 AM, followed by another from DPS RK Puram at 7:06 AM.
Delhi Schools Receive Bomb Threat: Officials Respond, Politicians Demand Answers
Fire officials, accompanied by bomb detection teams, the dog squad, and local police, conducted thorough searches at the affected schools. So far, no suspicious items have been found, a police official confirmed.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the state of law and order in the national capital, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called on Home Minister Amit Shah for accountability. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal wrote: “The people of Delhi have never seen such a poor state of law and order before. Amit Shah ji should come and answer the people of Delhi.”
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also criticized the BJP-led central government, highlighting a rise in incidents of murder, ransom demands, shootings, and bomb threats. She stated: “The law and order situation in Delhi has never been so dire. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its sole responsibility of ensuring the safety of Delhi’s citizens.”
This comes on the heels of an explosion outside a CRPF school in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar in October, which caused damage to the school wall, nearby shops, and vehicles. The next day, an email threatening bomb blasts at all CRPF schools by 11 AM on October 21 led to heightened concerns. However, the threat was later confirmed as a hoax after investigations.
