New Delhi: Fresh details have emerged in the assault case involving Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), who has accused Harish Chandra alias Harish Sharma, an aide to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, of physical assault.
Maliwal alleges that she was slapped, hit on the stomach, and kicked by Sharma. The incident reportedly took place at Sharma’s residence, where Maliwal had gone to discuss matters related to women’s safety.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed by Maliwal states that Sharma’s behavior became aggressive following a disagreement during their conversation. Despite her attempts to leave, Sharma allegedly blocked her exit and assaulted her. Maliwal managed to escape and sought medical attention for her injuries.
The FIR, registered under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), details the physical and emotional trauma Maliwal endured during the incident. Maliwal has called for stringent action against Sharma, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable, especially from someone in a position of power.
The incident has sparked a strong response from political circles and women’s rights activists, who are demanding a thorough investigation and swift justice. The Delhi government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
As the case progresses, it is expected to draw significant attention, given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the serious accusations made. Maliwal’s case highlights the ongoing struggle against gender-based violence and the urgent need for accountability and justice in such matters.
