Los Angeles looked like a war zone as drone footage captured the devastation caused by wildfires, which have claimed at least five lives and forced nearly 180,000 people to evacuate. The fires, igniting in the Pacific Palisades, have destroyed thousands of buildings, reducing entire blocks to ashes.
Drone footage revealed the skeletal remains of homes and debris-strewn yards in a decimated neighborhood, with small fires still smoldering amid thick gray smoke billowing into the air.
Officials have warned that intensifying winds could hamper their efforts to combat the wildfires, with three out of five fires in Los Angeles completely uncontained, already burning nearly 30,000 acres. The Palisades Fire, one of the city’s most devastating natural disasters, has consumed at least 19,059 acres, while the Eaton Fire, spanning Altadena and Pasadena, has scorched approximately 13,690 acres.
Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna described fire-ravaged neighborhoods as resembling “a bomb was dropped on them.” Meanwhile, power outages continue to plague California, with around 863,000 outages reported in Los Angeles County and nearly 857,000 in neighboring San Bernardino County, according to PowerOutage.us.
