Fresh FIR Filed Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, and Samay Raina Amid Roast Show Controversy
Mumbai: A new FIR has been registered against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, YouTuber Apoorva Mukhija, and comedian Samay Raina, among others, in connection with the ongoing uproar over controversial remarks made during the India’s Got Latent roast show. The Mumbai Police acted on a complaint alleging that the social media influencers had degraded the Indian family system and hurt religious sentiments.
The complainant, Sanmati Pandey, cited Allahbadia’s contentious remark: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” He argued that, as marriage is a sacred religious rite, the statement was offensive and insulted his beliefs. The complaint further accused Allahbadia of making the remarks with malicious intent.
Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, was also named in the complaint for her comments on Arunachal Pradesh’s food habits. “People of Arunachal Pradesh eat dog meat even though I have never tasted it. I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times,” she reportedly said. The complaint claims such statements could disrupt peace in the Northeastern state.
Additionally, Samay Raina has been accused of being part of the jury and production team for the show, as well as sharing related content on social media. YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has also been named in the complaint.
Sanmati Pandey clarified that while his phone number is linked to a YouTube channel that streamed the roast show, he had no role in its content creation.
The controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks has intensified since a video from the show went viral. Assam Police have also registered a case, with a team arriving in Mumbai to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Apoorva Mukhija appeared at Khar Police Station today with her lawyer to record her statement.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has expressed serious concern over Allahbadia’s remarks and summoned him, along with others involved in the show, for a hearing on February 17. “These comments, which have sparked widespread public outrage, violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect,” the commission stated, adding that the hearing was scheduled at the direction of chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has also initiated legal action under the IT Act. Reports indicate that at least 30 individuals linked to the show will receive notices requiring them to appear before the Cyber Cell and provide statements.
The issue has now reached Parliament, with Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanding stricter censorship on OTT platforms in response to the controversial remarks. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has stated that she will raise the matter in a House panel.
Ranveer Allahbadia Issues Apology Amid Backlash
Facing mounting criticism, Allahbadia has publicly apologized, admitting: “My comment was not appropriate, and not even funny. Comedy is not my forte, and I am just here to say sorry.” He described it as a “lapse in judgment” and acknowledged that “it was not cool.”
The backlash has led to a loss of approximately 50,000 followers across his social media platforms.
Several celebrities and public figures have condemned Allahbadia’s remarks, arguing that vulgarity is not humor and that influential personalities must be mindful of their impact on society. Others, however, have criticized the reaction as selective outrage, questioning whether law enforcement should focus on more pressing issues rather than targeting a content creator who has already apologized.
