Chanchlani approached the Supreme Court, requesting the quashing or transfer of an FIR filed in Assam to Mumbai over allegations of promoting obscenity.
The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to Assam and Maharashtra on YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani’s plea seeking to quash or transfer FIRs to Mumbai, PTI reported.
On Thursday, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to quash or transfer to Mumbai an FIR registered in Guwahati over allegations of promoting obscenity in the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Chanchlani is among those named in the Assam FIR, where podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia is the primary accused due to his controversial remarks on the show.
What Ashish Chanchlani’s Plea Stated
As per a PTI report, Chanchlani sought the quashing of an FIR registered at the Cyber Police Station, Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam.
The plea requested the court to “quash FIR No. 03 of 2025 registered at Cyber PS Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam, as it was filed at a later stage.”
The YouTuber has requested the transfer of the FIR registered at the Cyber Police Station, Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam, to the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Mumbai, arguing that FIR No. 05 of 2025 was filed there first.
The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Ashish Chanchlani while hearing his anticipatory bail plea, directing him to appear before the investigating officer within 10 days.
Chanchlani’s lawyers argued that he had not made any statements during the show, and the allegations in the FIR were directed solely at the co-accused.
The FIR was filed by Guwahati Police on February 10 based on a complaint from an individual. It was registered under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
In addition to Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani, the Assam case also names comedians Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija.
