Allu Arjun Arrested in Connection with Woman’s Death in Pushpa 2 Premiere Stampede
Tollywood actor Allu Arjun was arrested by Hyderabad police on Friday in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at Sandhya Theatre. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, during the premiere screening of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule, where a large crowd gathered to see the actor, resulting in chaos.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, CV Anand, confirmed the arrest of Allu Arjun in relation to the stampede.
A 35-year-old woman lost her life, and her nine-year-old son was hospitalized due to asphyxiation. Following the incident, an FIR was filed against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management. The case was registered at Chikkadpally police station under Sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint from the deceased woman’s family.
On Friday, a team of police officers from Chikkadpally police station in Hyderabad arrived at Allu Arjun’s residence in Jubilee Hills and took him into custody. He was then transferred to the police station for questioning, according to the authorities.
Following Allu Arjun, his father-in-law, Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy, also arrived at the Chikkadpally police station.
TV footage showed the Tollywood ‘icon star’ being escorted in a police vehicle, surrounded by tight security.
Police reported that a 35-year-old woman died and her nine-year-old son was hospitalized due to asphyxiation during a stampede-like incident at a theatre in Hyderabad during the premiere of actor Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The incident occurred on the night of December 4, when a large crowd of fans gathered at the Sandhya Theatre near the busy RTC Crossroads to catch a glimpse of the actor.
Police have identified the deceased as Revathi. She was with her son, Sri Teja, who also suffered from suffocation and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, where he is recovering.
In response to the tragedy, Allu Arjun had earlier announced a financial contribution of ₹25 lakh to Revathi’s family. He has since filed a petition in the Telangana High Court, seeking the cancellation of the FIR filed against him. The court is expected to hear his plea soon.
