Revanth Reddy met with Tollywood actors and filmmakers amid escalating tensions between the ruling government and the film industry following Allu Arjun’s arrest.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has reportedly assured Tollywood actors and filmmakers that his government supports the Telugu film industry, while emphasizing that there will be no compromise on law and order.
Revanth Reddy held a meeting with Tollywood actors and filmmakers on Thursday, amid growing tensions between the ruling government and the film industry following the arrest of Pushpa 2 actor Allu Arjun.
Revanth Reddy also emphasized that celebrities must control their fans and that the film industry should take responsibility, according to news agency ANI citing unnamed sources.
The meeting took place at the Telangana State Police Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.
The delegation from Tollywood was led by Telangana Film Development Corporation (FDC) Chairman Dil Raju. Other attendees included actors Nagarjuna, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Kalyan Ram, Shiva Balaji, Adavi Sesh, Nithin, and Venkatesh.
Directors Koratala Siva, Anil Ravipudi, K. Raghavendra Rao, Prashanth Varma, Sai Rajesh, and producers Suresh Babu, KL Narayana, Damodhar, Allu Aravind, BVSN Prasad, and Chinna Babu, among others, also participated in the meeting.
On December 4, when Allu Arjun attended the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, a massive crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor. Chaos erupted when he waved to fans from the sunroof of his car, resulting in the tragic death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her eight-year-old child.
Some Congress leaders from the ruling party have criticized Allu Arjun’s remarks from last week, in which he referred to the stampede incident as a purely accidental event and rejected the allegations made by CM Revanth Reddy regarding the “roadshow” before the film screening.
Revanth Reddy vs Allu Arjun
Hours after Revanth Reddy criticized the actor for holding a roadshow and waving to the crowd at the theatre, without naming anyone, the Pushpa star denied the allegations, clarifying that it was neither a procession nor a roadshow.
Hyderabad Police arrested Allu Arjun on December 13 in connection with the death of the woman.
Later that day, the Telangana High Court granted him a four-week interim bail, and he was released from prison on the morning of December 14.
After the incident, Allu Arjun was arrested and later granted bail after posting a ₹50,000 bond. On Tuesday, he was questioned by the Hyderabad police regarding the tragic event during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2.
The incident has also sparked political controversy. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held Allu Arjun responsible for the tragedy, stating in the Assembly that the police had denied permission for any event at Sandhya Theatre due to safety concerns.
However, the actor dismissed the allegations, calling them an attempt at “character assassination.”
