Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections on Wednesday to cast their ballots in record numbers, aiming to put an end to corruption, infiltration, and appeasement in the state.
Voting began this morning for 43 Assembly seats in Jharkhand, where 683 candidates—including former Chief Minister Champai Soren and former MP Geeta Kora—are contesting.
“I urge all voters participating in the first phase of polling in Jharkhand to turn out in record numbers and help build a corruption-free, secure, and developed Jharkhand,” Shah wrote in Hindi on X.
The Home Minister urged the people of Jharkhand to vote in large numbers to safeguard tribal identity, protect land rights, enhance women’s security, and support youth employment.
Shah encouraged people to vote before breakfast, saying, “For roti (livelihood), beti (daughters), and mati (land), vote first, then eat.”
The second phase of elections in the state is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting set for November 23.
