Bangladesh Secures Their First Test Series Win Against Pakistan with a Six-Wicket Victory in Rawalpindi, Completing the Tour with a 2-0 Lead.
Bangladesh’s cricket team has achieved a historic 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan, clinching the second and final match with a six-wicket win on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 185 in Rawalpindi, Bangladesh reached their goal in the afternoon session of the final day, adding to their 10-wicket triumph in the opening Test at the same venue. That initial match had marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win against Pakistan.
Zakir Hasan played a crucial role at the top of the innings with a quickfire 40 off 39 balls, contributing significantly to Bangladesh’s successful chase and leaving little chance for a Pakistani comeback. The 26-year-old’s innings featured three fours and two sixes, as he and Shadman Islam put on an opening stand of 58.
The winning moment arrived, fittingly, with a cover drive off Abrar Ahmed by Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib, along with Mushfiqur Rahim, added an unbeaten 32 for the fifth wicket to ease any nerves after Mominul Haque was dismissed with the score at 153-4.
Bangladesh’s first innings was salvaged by Litton Das’s 136, who, alongside Mehidy Hasan Miraz, forged a crucial 165-run partnership for the seventh wicket. This rescue effort came after Bangladesh had collapsed to 26-6 in response to the hosts’ 274. Mehidy contributed 78 to the partnership and had previously taken five wickets with the ball.
Pakistan, despite three batters scoring half-centuries in their first innings, were dismissed for 172 in their second innings, as their batting issues from the first match resurfaced. Hasan Mahmud led the attack with 5-43, while Nahid Rana added 4-44.
The two defeats in the series extend Pakistan’s winless streak in red-ball cricket at home to six losses and four draws since their last victory against South Africa in Rawalpindi in 2021.
