Dr. Krishnamurthy’s tweet follows Maharashtra Ports Minister Nitesh Rane’s accusation that Saif Ali Khan was “dancing while walking” out of the hospital, questioning, “Was he really stabbed, or was he just acting?”
Saif Ali Khan returned to his Bandra residence on Tuesday after being discharged from Lilavati Hospital, where he was treated for six stab wounds, including one on his spine. The injuries were inflicted by an intruder who broke into his home earlier this month. Khan underwent surgery to repair leaking spinal fluid and received plastic surgery on his arm and neck. Just five days after the incident, he was seen walking comfortably at home, sparking a debate about the speed of his recovery.
Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane questioned the legitimacy of the attack, suggesting the actor’s recovery seemed suspicious. In response, Bengaluru-based cardiologist Dr. Deepak Krishnamurthy offered a medical perspective. Posting on X, Dr. Krishnamurthy shared a video of his 78-year-old mother walking with a fractured foot in a cast shortly after undergoing spine surgery in 2022. He wrote, “For those doubting if Saif Ali Khan truly had spine surgery—some skeptics, even doctors—this is my mother walking on the same day of her surgery. A younger, fitter individual can recover even faster. To the doubting doctors, I suggest seeking better exposure.”
In a follow-up tweet, Dr. Krishnamurthy clarified that Saif Ali Khan’s injuries, though serious, were less severe than those suffered by his mother. “What Saif had was only a cerebrospinal fluid leak and a tear in the dura mater, which was repaired. My mother had a far worse injury—a fractured bone in the spine—and she was discharged the next day!” he wrote.
Dr. Krishnamurthy also addressed the skepticism surrounding Saif’s quick recovery. “Nowadays, people who have undergone cardiac bypass surgeries can walk and climb stairs by the third or fourth day! Please educate yourselves before coming to social media and proudly displaying your ignorance. Consult experts, read up, and learn,” he concluded.
This tweet came in response to Maharashtra Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, who accused Saif Ali Khan of exaggerating his condition. Rane claimed, “I doubted whether he had been stabbed or was acting. He was dancing while walking out of the hospital.”
The BJP leader further made controversial remarks about the attack, attributing it to Bangladeshi intruders and alleging, “They’ve started entering houses. Maybe he [the intruder] came to take him [Saif Ali Khan] away. It’s good—garbage should be taken away.” Rane’s comments, reported by ANI, have sparked widespread criticism.
Sanjay Nirupam, a former Congress leader who later joined Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “The way Saif came out… it seemed like nothing had happened six days ago.”
The Bollywood actor was attacked last week by an intruder who broke into his home intending to commit theft. During a violent altercation, Saif Ali Khan sustained multiple stab wounds.
The alleged attacker, Sariful Islam, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh who entered India last year, was arrested in Thane near Mumbai following a three-day manhunt. The operation involved at least 20 teams from the Mumbai Police.
