Amid Chhaava‘s impressive box office run, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi stirred controversy by calling Mughal emperor Aurangzeb a “great administrator” and claiming that India was known as Sone Ki Chidiya (The Golden Bird) during his reign.
Reacting to Azmi’s statement, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said, “If you watch the movie Chhaava, you will get goosebumps. It showcases the bravery of Sambhaji Maharaj and the cruelty of Aurangzeb.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is based on Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel of the same name. The film chronicles the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and his tragic end at the hands of Aurangzeb.
Starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, the film also features Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. Chhaava premiered in theaters worldwide on February 14.
