New Delhi: On the verge of a landslide victory in the U.S. election, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump thanked his supporters, calling it a “magnificent victory for the American people.” He also referenced the July 13 assassination attempt, saying, “God spared my life for a reason.”
At 78 years old, Trump is currently projected to secure 267 electoral college votes, just three shy of the 270 needed to win. His opponent, incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, is trailing with 224 votes.
Calling the Republican campaign the “greatest political movement of all time,” Trump added, “We are going to help our country heal, fix our borders, and tonight we made history for a reason. This is the most incredible political victory. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your families with every breath in my body.”
Trump also noted that the Democrats are now looking at a potential 315 electoral votes.
A key factor in Trump’s success was the Republican sweep in seven swing states. In a dramatic shift from the 2020 election, where Democrats held a 6-1 advantage in these battleground states, Trump now holds a 7-0 lead. He has already secured victories in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, while leading in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada.
The significance of the Republican victory is amplified by their control of the Senate and their leading position in the race for the House of Representatives.
In his victory speech, Trump expressed gratitude to his supporters, running mate JD Vance, wife Melania Trump, and his children for their unwavering support throughout what has been a tough campaign. He also took a moment to acknowledge Tesla CEO and X boss Elon Musk, who has openly backed Trump.
