CCTV footage captures two terrorists at a workers’ camp in Ganderbal district of Kashmir, where seven individuals were killed on October 20.
CCTV footage shows two terrorists armed with an American-made M4 carbine and an AK-47 spending seven minutes at a workers’ camp in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir, where seven individuals were killed on October 20.
Among the deceased was a doctor from Budgam in Kashmir, while six others were from outside the Valley. They were all employed by APCO Infratech, the company working on the construction of the Z-Morh tunnel along the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway.
The attack occurred at around 7:25 p.m. on October 20, while some employees were sitting in the dining area and others were heading for dinner at the camp.
The camp is situated just below an access road to the tunnel, bordered by barren mountains on one side and the Srinagar-Leh national highway on the other.
Following the incident, senior police officials, along with representatives from the National Investigation Agency and other security agencies, visited the site.
“There are no CCTV cameras installed at the location where the attackers first opened fire. However, CCTV footage captured their movement afterward, showing the two entering and opening fire. They also attacked the mess before emerging to target more workers,”
Initial investigations have revealed that the attackers concealed a grenade inside a vehicle parked at the camp before shooting the driver.
After taking statements from the injured individuals and a security guard who managed to escape, it became evident that the workers initially believed the sounds were from firecrackers. However, within two to three minutes, they realized it was a terror attack, the report noted.
The attackers were armed with an M4 carbine assault rifle and an AK-47, with 37 to 40 spent cartridges recovered from the scene.
Officials indicated that the police have detained local individuals for questioning, as investigators have yet to find any leads on the attackers, who are believed to be foreigners.
High-ranking police, army, and CRPF officials have been frequently visiting the site. The officers noted that the two terrorists involved may have recently infiltrated the Valley through Bandipora district.
At the time the attackers infiltrated the camp, there were over 200 workers and officials present at the site.
