New Delhi: Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who operates an international criminal syndicate, has been arrested in the United States, sources informed NDTV on Monday evening.
Anmol Bishnoi is a key suspect in multiple high-profile cases, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, the recent killing of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, and the shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence earlier this year.
Earlier this month, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch initiated the extradition process to bring Anmol Bishnoi back from the United States. A special court in Maharashtra had issued a non-bailable warrant for his arrest.
Interpol also issued a Red Corner Notice against Bishnoi, who hails from Fazilka in Punjab. Initially believed to have fled to Canada using a fake passport, he is now facing extradition from the US.
Bishnoi is also implicated in two cases filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), India’s premier anti-terror agency. The NIA has listed him among its most-wanted individuals and announced a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest.
The Bishnoi gang, which gained notoriety after the 2022 murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, returned to headlines this year following a shooting incident outside Salman Khan’s residence on April 14.
In response to the incident, security around the actor’s home was significantly increased as threats, allegedly issued in Lawrence Bishnoi’s name, continued over the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
The gang is also under investigation for last month’s murder of politician Baba Siddique, a close associate of Salman Khan.
Additionally, in 2022, the Bishnoi brothers and others were accused of conspiring to raise funds and recruit youth for terrorist activities in Delhi and other parts of India.
