Raipur: An IndiGo flight traveling from Nagpur to Kolkata made an emergency landing in Raipur on Thursday after receiving a bomb threat, which was later found to be a hoax, officials confirmed.
A passenger was detained in connection with the incident.
The flight, carrying 187 passengers and six crew members, landed at Swami Vivekananda Airport shortly after 9 a.m. following the threat, according to Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh.
According to preliminary reports, a passenger informed the flight crew about a bomb on board while the aircraft was in mid-air.
Air Traffic Control was notified, and the flight was diverted to Raipur. Upon landing, the plane was immediately directed to an isolation bay for mandatory security checks, as per the police.
A police team and bomb squad were dispatched to the airport. All passengers were deboarded, and both the aircraft and luggage were thoroughly inspected, said Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh.
“After a complete inspection, the bomb threat was determined to be a hoax. The passenger who reported the threat was detained and is currently being questioned,” the police official added.
The flight resumed its journey to Kolkata around 12 noon, airport officials confirmed.
This follows a similar incident on October 24, when a bomb threat was issued against an Alliance Air flight from Kolkata to Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh). The aircraft was inspected at Bilaspur airport, but no suspicious items were found.
