Mahakumbh 2025: Comprehensive Security Measures in Place Following CM Yogi Adityanath’s Directives
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the establishment of a robust security framework around Prayagraj, covering key routes linking the district to neighboring areas.
Circular Security System and Checkpoints
In accordance with these directives, police have implemented a circular security system featuring 102 checkpoints along seven critical routes. Security protocols include thorough checks and frisking of vehicles and individuals to ensure safety.
AI-Driven Surveillance and Personnel Deployment
According to a Reuters report, DGP Prashant Kumar highlighted the deployment of approximately 40,000 police personnel and cybercrime experts, supported by artificial intelligence (AI), to create a comprehensive surveillance network. This advanced system aims to protect and assist the massive influx of visitors at the event.
To manage the 102 checkpoints effectively, over 1,000 officers have been deployed, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, and 645 constables. Additional resources include 113 personnel from the Home Guards and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD), ensuring seamless security operations across the district and neighboring regions.
The Uttar Pradesh Police reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all participants during the event.
To enhance surveillance, the area will be monitored 24/7 with the deployment of five Vajra vehicles, 10 drones, and four anti-sabotage teams.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has established a multi-layered security system, termed the “impenetrable security chakravyuh,” around Prayagraj to safeguard key sites, including temples and akhadas.
To ensure readiness, mock drills have been conducted in collaboration with the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Security Guard (NSG), Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and UP Police.
Advanced technology plays a critical role in the security measures. According to ANI, 2,700 AI-enabled cameras have been installed throughout the Kumbh area, while 113 underwater drones will monitor the waterways to ensure safety.
With over 450 million devotees expected, the Mahakumbh will culminate on February 26. The main bathing rituals, known as Shahi Snan, are scheduled on key auspicious dates: January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
Held once every 12 years, the Mahakumbh is set to draw millions of pilgrims to the Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
