Mumbai: On Monday, the Maharashtra Government declared indigenous cows as “Rajyamata-Gomata,” recognizing their significance dating back to the Vedic period, according to an official notification. The announcement also emphasized the nutritional value of indigenous cow milk, its role in Ayurvedic and panchgavya treatments, and the use of cow manure in organic farming, as stated in a resolution issued by the state’s Agriculture, Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries Department.
This decision, made ahead of the state assembly elections, highlights the cow’s spiritual, scientific, and historical importance in Indian society. An official noted that it underscores the vital role cows have played in India’s cultural heritage for centuries.
By making this decision, the state government has highlighted the agricultural advantages of cow dung, which improves soil fertility and supports human nutrition, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable farming practices, he stated.
