The Maldives government has announced a ban on the entry of Israeli citizens, according to a statement from the Maldivian President’s office. To implement this measure, the South Asian nation will amend its laws to prohibit Israeli nationals from entering the country.
Additionally, the Maldives has appointed a special envoy to evaluate the needs of Palestinians and launched a fundraising campaign to support Palestinian citizens. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
Following a cabinet meeting led by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldives announced plans to amend its laws to prohibit the entry of Israeli nationals into the country.
The island nation has also announced plans to hold a nationwide rally under the slogan “Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine” to demonstrate their support for Palestinian citizens.
The decision was officially announced by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan, after a cabinet meeting led by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu at his residence.
“Following a recommendation from the Cabinet, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to impose a ban on Israeli passports,” stated the Maldives President’s office. Minister Ali Ihusan shared this decision during a news conference at the President’s Office this afternoon.
In his address to the media, Ihusan mentioned that the government has begun the process of amending the country’s laws to prohibit the entry of Israeli citizens.
