The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a ‘red’ alert for hefty rainfall in Mumbai today (8 July). The city has been experiencing significant waterlogging, and railway and flight services have been suspended since this morning.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has also forecasted hefty rains for Raigad and Ratnagiri today, leading the Met Department to issue a red alert for these districts.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some areas, with isolated places likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall,” the weather agency predicted for Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.
In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a warning to Mumbaikars on X (formerly Twitter), advising residents to avoid going outside today.

Mumbai recorded 101.8 mm of rainfall in nine hours on Monday, nearly seven times more than its suburbs during the same period. Other parts of Maharashtra also experienced heavy showers, according to the weather office.
50 Flights Canceled
Heavy rainfall and low visibility on Monday morning significantly disrupted flight operations at Mumbai airport.
At least 50 flights scheduled to land in the country’s financial capital have been either canceled or diverted to various other locations, including Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Indore.
