PM Modi-Trump Meeting: Why It Matters
During his two-day visit to the U.S., Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for high-stakes talks with President Donald Trump, amid New Delhi’s concerns over Washington’s “America First” trade policy and its stance on immigration.
Modi is staying at Blair House, the official U.S. presidential guest house, located in the heart of Washington, D.C.
With Trump’s strict tariff policies, particularly targeting Asian nations, PM Modi’s top priority is likely to be preventing any potential punitive trade actions by Washington against India.
Experts and observers of India-U.S. relations suggest that both sides may explore the possibility of a trade pact to reduce high tariffs and broaden their trade partnership.
During their meeting, the two leaders are expected to focus on strengthening India-U.S. cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, defense, technology, and immigration.
