PM Modi Hails Maha Kumbh, Lauds UP Govt and People of Prayagraj for Historic Event
Prayagraj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised the Maha Kumbh, acknowledging the efforts of the central government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led administration, and the residents of Prayagraj for their dedication in hosting devotees from across the country.
The 45-day spiritual gathering, which concluded on Wednesday, saw a record participation of over 66 crore people at Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati.
PM Modi described the event as a testament to a nation breaking free from the “mindset of slavery” and embracing its cultural roots.
“The Maha Kumbh has concluded. The ‘mahayagna’ of unity has concluded,” he wrote in a blog, highlighting the significance of the festival, which takes place once every 12 years.
Acknowledging the challenges of organizing such a massive event, he expressed gratitude and also extended an apology for any shortcomings.
PM Modi Seeks Forgiveness for Any Shortcomings in Maha Kumbh Arrangements
Acknowledging the challenges of organizing the massive Maha Kumbh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed humility and sought forgiveness for any lapses.
“I know hosting such a grand event was not easy. I pray to Maa Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati—if we fell short in our worship, please forgive us. If we lacked in serving the devotees, whom I consider divine, I seek forgiveness from the people as well,” he wrote in Hindi.
The event, which drew millions from across the country, was marred by a tragic stampede that claimed at least 30 lives.
Reflecting on the scale of participation, PM Modi noted, “For 45 days, I witnessed lakhs of devotees from every corner of India moving towards the banks of Sangam. The devotion and desire for a holy dip kept growing, with every pilgrim focused on one thing—‘Snan’ at Sangam.”
Having taken a holy dip himself on February 5, PM Modi emphasized how the Maha Kumbh has become a subject of study for modern management professionals, including experts in planning and policy-making.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Maha Kumbh as an event without parallel in the world, marveling at the sheer scale of participation.
“There is no event of this magnitude anywhere else in the world; nothing compares to it,” he said.
Expressing astonishment at the massive turnout, he remarked, “The world is amazed at how crores of people gathered at the Triveni Sangam without formal invitations or pre-planned schedules. People simply set out for the Maha Kumbh, driven by devotion, and were blessed by taking a dip in the holy waters.”
Recalling the vibrant scenes at the festival, he said, “I cannot forget those images—the faces filled with joy and satisfaction after taking a holy dip. Be it women, the elderly, or persons with disabilities, everyone made the effort to reach Sangam.”
PM Modi also highlighted the growing enthusiasm of India’s youth in embracing tradition. “It is heartening to see the younger generation participate in large numbers. This reflects their deep connection with our cultural heritage and their commitment to carrying it forward.”
He praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership in successfully organizing the grand event. “As an MP from Uttar Pradesh, I take pride in how Yogi ji, along with the government, administration, and the public, ensured the Maha Kumbh’s success.”
Acknowledging the relentless efforts of sanitation workers, police personnel, boatmen, drivers, and cooks, he lauded the people of Prayagraj for their unwavering spirit of service.
“What has not happened in decades was achieved this time,” he asserted. “This Maha Kumbh has laid the foundation for many centuries to come.”
He also emphasized the record-breaking scale of the gathering, noting, “The number of devotees who came to the Maha Kumbh is unprecedented—almost double the population of the United States took the holy dip.”
