The healthcare scheme for senior citizens is projected to benefit approximately six crore individuals across about 4.5 crore households.
On Tuesday, October 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched health coverage for all citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), according to news agency PTI.
Under the scheme, individuals with an Ayushman card can receive free treatment up to ₹5 lakh at any AB PMJAY empaneled hospital starting October 29.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to launch several other projects on Tuesday, including the U-WIN portal. This portal is modeled after India’s COVID-19 vaccine management system, Co-WIN, and will maintain a permanent digital record of vaccinations for children from birth to age 17, as well as for pregnant women.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “Enhancing healthcare infrastructure is our priority. The initiatives launched today will provide citizens with access to high-quality and affordable facilities.”
