Former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh stated on Monday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab could collapse at any moment following the party’s defeat in the Delhi assembly elections.
“I’m not making a prediction, but I can say today that Kejriwal and the AAP are facing a troubled future. The AAP government in Punjab could fall anytime,” Singh told news agency PTI.
He also remarked that AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will not win any election again. Singh’s comments come amid growing speculation of a rift within AAP’s Punjab unit following the party’s poor performance in the Delhi elections.
A faction within the Punjab unit is reportedly unhappy with the government’s functioning and its grassroots perception. Kejriwal is scheduled to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs today.
At the meeting, which will be held at Delhi’s Kapurthala House, Kejriwal will personally thank Punjab leaders for their efforts during the assembly elections. The discussion will cover the Delhi results and early preparations for the upcoming Punjab polls.
Punjab elections are set for 2027, and AAP MP Malvinder Kang stated that feedback is being gathered to formulate the party’s future strategy.
“It is an organizational meeting to plan the next strategy,” he said, without providing further details. A day before the election results, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa suggested that Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann might switch to the BJP, claiming that Mann had been in contact with the Union Home Ministry.
Bajwa also asserted that about 30 AAP MLAs from Punjab were in touch with him. “When this Maharashtra plane lands in Chandigarh, the first passenger to become Eknath Shinde will be Bhagwant Mann,” Bajwa told India Today.
He further speculated that Kejriwal might contest from the vacant Ludhiana seat and potentially join the Punjab government.
