NHRC Seeks Action-Taken Report
On December 4, Allu Arjun attended the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. Unfortunately, the event turned chaotic, leading to the tragic death of a woman and her young son being critically injured and hospitalised. The police arrested Arjun on December 13, and while the Nampally court initially remanded him to 14 days in custody, the Telangana High Court later granted him interim bail.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Hyderabad police chief to submit an action-taken report within four weeks regarding the stampede incident. According to PTI, the NHRC has also called for an inquiry into the allegations by a senior-ranking police officer and requested “needful action” on the matter. The directive follows a complaint by an attorney claiming that the police’s lathi charge triggered the chaos, ultimately leading to the woman’s death.
