Congress MPs Manickam Tagore and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka donned face masks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani on Monday as opposition leaders renewed their protests in Parliament, demanding an investigation into the US bribery case involving the industrialist.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was spotted taking pictures of Tagore and Ulaka and playfully asking them to “describe their relationship.”
In response, they mockingly replied, “Hum dono milke sab karenge (we will do everything together). Our relationship goes back years.”
When Rahul Gandhi asked the MPs why Parliament proceedings had been disrupted because of them, they responded, “He is missing today. Amit bhai (Union Home Minister Amit Shah) did not come to the House today.”
The MP pretending to be Adani added, “Whatever I say, he does it,” pointing to his colleague wearing a PM Modi mask.
Since the session began on November 20, both Houses have faced repeated disruptions, with the Opposition relentlessly targeting the government for avoiding a discussion on the US bribery allegations against Adani.
On Monday, Opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc—excluding the Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Aam Aadmi Party—joined the protests, demanding a joint parliamentary probe into the case.
The protesters gathered outside Parliament’s Makar Dwar, chanting slogans such as “Modi and Adani are one” and “We want justice.”
On December 6, Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him not to fear an investigation into the Adani case and to attend the Winter Session of Parliament.
Last month, U.S. prosecutors accused Adani, his nephew Sagar, and other associates of paying over $250 million in bribes between 2020 and 2024 to Indian government officials to secure solar energy contracts with potential profits exceeding $2 billion. The Adani Group has dismissed these allegations as “baseless.”
In addition to protesting the Adani issue on Monday, Opposition leaders demonstrated in the Rajya Sabha against BJP claims linking former Congress president Sonia Gandhi to an organization funded by the George Soros Foundation. The BJP alleged that the organization had supported the idea of Kashmir’s separation from India.
On Sunday, the BJP shared a series of tweets asserting that Sonia Gandhi’s association highlighted foreign influence on India’s internal matters.
