India’s opening batters Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal set a Test cricket world record on Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. After bowling Bangladesh out for 233 runs in the first innings, Rohit and Jaiswal exhibited an aggressive approach right from the start, dominating the opposition bowlers. They primarily scored through boundaries, reaching the 50-run mark in just three overs. This marked the first time in Test cricket history, since record-keeping began, that a team scored 50 runs within the first three overs.
Previously, England held the record for the fastest fifty in Test cricket, achieving it in 26 balls. However, the Indian team broke this record by a significant margin, reaching their half-century in just 18 balls against Bangladesh. England had set the record earlier this year at Trent Bridge during a match against the West Indies.
India’s previous fastest team fifty was against England in Chennai in 2008, when they reached the 50-run mark in 5.2 overs.

In Test cricket, traditionally a slower format, the England cricket team’s aggressive playing style has earned them the nickname ‘Bazball.’ However, with their performance against Bangladesh in the opening overs, Team India demonstrated their ability to adapt their batting approach based on the situation of the game.
Earlier, India bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs in their first innings on the fourth day of the second Test. Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 107, with Bangladesh scoring their runs in 74.2 overs.
Resuming at 205 for 6, Bangladesh added just 28 runs while losing four wickets in the post-lunch session.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets for 50 runs, while Akash Deep (2/43), Ravichandran Ashwin (2/45), and Mohammed Siraj (2/57) shared six wickets among them. Ravindra Jadeja also achieved the milestone of 300 Test wickets.
