India pacer Mohammed Shami, currently recovering from an injury, is set to make his anticipated return to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy. The Cricket Association of Bengal confirmed that Shami will play in the upcoming match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, starting Wednesday, November 13.
Shami has been out of action since the World Cup final in Ahmedabad in November 2023, following a prolonged rehabilitation period. He initially underwent surgery for an Achilles heel injury and later faced a setback due to knee swelling, which delayed his return despite a few practice sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru alongside India’s Test match against New Zealand.
Shami’s return is a positive sign for India as they prepare for a five-Test tour of Australia beginning November 22. Although he hasn’t been named in the Test squad, captain Rohit Sharma had expressed hope last month that Shami might join the team for part of the tour if he regains full fitness.
