In a move aimed at easing tensions in Shimla’s Sanjauli, the mosque committee has submitted a memorandum to the Shimla Municipal Corporation, stating they will voluntarily demolish the portions of the mosque that do not conform to the approved map.
Commenting on the Sanjauli Mosque issue in Himachal Pradesh, BJP MP Sambit Patra remarked that if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi meets with Ilhan Omar, it’s natural for him to show support for ‘illegal mosques’.
Addressing the press on Thursday, a BJP leader stated, “Hindu organizations and local residents of Shimla are protesting against an illegal mosque. It’s clear that the mosque in question is unauthorized. Congress’ Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh, during a session, questioned the origins of the ‘Jamaat’ members and raised concerns about ‘Love Jihad’… Congress turned against him for this.”
He further added, “The Municipal Court has issued 45 notices to the mosque, asking for legal documentation, but none have been provided. Yet, Congress continues its appeasement stance.”
The controversy over the illegal mosque in Shimla intensified, leading to a bandh from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Protesters demanding the demolition of an illegal section of the mosque in Shimla’s Sanjauli area clashed with security personnel on Wednesday. The protesters broke barricades and threw stones, prompting the police to use water cannons and batons to disperse the crowd. Nearly 10 people, including police officers and women, were injured during the protest.
