New Delhi: A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was discovered in a suitcase on Saturday, sources said.
Authorities recovered her mobile phone and jewelry from the suspect, who is reportedly a resident of Bahadurgarh and a friend of Narwal, sources added.
Narwal, believed to be in her late 20s, was found stuffed in a suitcase in Rohtak, prompting the Haryana Police to form a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case.
Rohtak Congress MLA BB Batra described Narwal as a “dedicated and active” party worker who participated in various programs, including Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
On Sunday, her family refused to cremate her body until those responsible were brought to justice. Her mother, Savita, alleged that some party leaders were envious of Narwal’s swift political rise.
“It could be someone within the party jealous of her rise, or it could be someone else,” she said.
“The last time I spoke to her was on February 27. She told me she would be busy with a party program the next day, but later, her phone was found switched off. Until my daughter gets justice, we will not cremate her,” she added.
