Tamil Nadu Rains Latest News Today: The IMD has issued an ‘orange alert’ for the several districts of Tamil Nadu forecasting heavy downpour in next 24 hours. Latest reports say that several schools across Chennai and other districts remained shut on Thursday.
A one-day holiday was declared for schools in the districts of Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across several districts in Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours.
Chennai and its neighboring districts, including Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Villupuram, experienced heavy overnight rains, along with parts of the Cauvery delta region.
The regional weather office has issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur, as well as the nearby Union Territory of Puducherry.
The IMD has forecast that rains in Tamil Nadu are likely to persist until December 16. In response to the alert, the state administration has deployed NDRF teams and other emergency personnel to manage the situation.
