New Delhi: African-American singer and actress Mary Millben, known for her admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, exchanged Christmas greetings with him on Tuesday and commended his acknowledgment of Jesus Christ at a recent event.
After PM Modi attended Christmas celebrations at the headquarters of the Catholic Church in India, Ms. Millben posted on X:
“Bless you, @PMOIndia. Jesus Christ is the greatest gift and example of love. Thank you, PM Modi, for honouring my Savior Jesus Christ publicly at the @IndianBishops Christmas Celebration. Your words touched me… Merry Christmas to all my brothers and sisters in India.”
Responding to her message, PM Modi wrote:
“The teachings of Lord Christ celebrate love, harmony, and brotherhood. It is important that we all work to make this spirit stronger.”
Ms. Millben first met PM Modi during his state visit to the US in June 2023. She had performed the Indian national anthem at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., where she garnered widespread attention for touching PM Modi’s feet to seek his blessings after her performance.
Mary Millben has previously praised the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), calling it a “true act of democracy” and commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing refuge to persecuted religious minorities. She also urged the US government to recognize his leadership and strengthen diplomatic ties with India.
On another occasion, she highlighted PM Modi’s commitment to women’s empowerment, describing him as the ideal leader for India’s progress and advocating for greater representation of women in leadership roles across the country.
Ms. Millben also lauded PM Modi’s handling of the challenges in Manipur, asserting that he “will always fight for your freedom” and emphasizing the trust India places in his leadership. Her affection for India is evident in her frequent declarations, such as, “I love India.”
At the Christmas celebration hosted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) in Delhi on Monday, PM Modi condemned efforts to incite violence in society, underscoring the importance of Jesus Christ’s teachings of love, harmony, and brotherhood.
He also denounced last week’s terror attack at Germany’s Magdeburg Christmas Market, where a Sports Utility Vehicle rammed into a crowd, killing four women and a nine-year-old child, and injuring 205 people, including seven Indians.
