Vinod Kambli’s remark came after he was admitted to a private hospital in Thane district, where medical tests revealed blood clots in his brain.
Former India batter Vinod Kambli, on Tuesday, reflected on his childhood friendship with Sachin Tendulkar while receiving treatment in the hospital and expressed gratitude for the India batting legend’s blessings. The 52-year-old made the comment after being admitted to a private hospital in Thane district, where medical tests revealed blood clots in his brain.
Speaking to ANI, when Kambli was asked about his condition after recent updates confirmed his stability, the former left-handed batter responded by singing Queen’s iconic 1977 hit, “We Are the Champions.”
He then added, “I’m feeling better now… I will never leave cricket because I remember the countless centuries and double centuries I’ve scored. We have three left-handers in the family.”
When informed that his former India teammates, including Sachin, have been praying for his speedy recovery, Kambli said, “When I wasn’t well, he (Sachin) told me he was sending his blessings. I’m grateful to him.”
Vinod Kambli Admitted to Thane Hospital
Kambli was brought to the hospital by one of his fans, who also owns a hospital in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi, Thane district. Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who is treating the Mumbai-based former India batter, shared that Kambli initially complained of a urinary infection and cramps, leading to his admission. However, after a series of tests, the medical team at Akruti Hospital discovered blood clots in his brain. Dr. Trivedi confirmed that Kambli’s condition is being closely monitored, and additional tests will be conducted on Tuesday. He also mentioned that hospital in-charge S Singh has decided to offer Kambli lifelong free treatment at the facility.
Kambli, who played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India between 1993 and 2000, had recently attended the inauguration of legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, where Sachin Tendulkar was also present.
